JOSEPH J. BEER (d. 1955)

Word was received in Manitowoc Saturday of the death at Kansas City,
Mo., Friday night of Joseph Beer, 79, former member of the Manitowoc
Fire Department, who retired in 1943 after 34 years service in the
department.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Urbanek and Schlei
Funeral Home Manitowoc. The Rev. Gervase Zanotti will officiate and
burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
He entered the department in 1909 when all fire apparatus was horsedrawn,
and later rose to the rank of captain. He later located in Milwaukee to
live with his children and more recently, lived in Chicago. His wife, the
former Mary Menchal, died in 1929.
Surviving are two sons, Emil in the U.S. Navy and Joseph Jr. of Milwaukee;
three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Taylor and Mary Ann of Milwaukee and Mrs. Eva
Johnson of Chicago.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday.
