MATHILDE L. BACON
(1876 - 1942)
Mrs. John L. Bacon, 66, (photo) former city school teacher and active for years in First Presbyterian church circles, died early Sunday at the home, 932 Lincoln boulevard. Death was due to a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, with the Rev. C.H. Phipps of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Bacon, nee Mathilda Nienaber, was born in Germany in 1875 and when a child accompanied her parents to Manitowoc. After completing her schooling, she taught school in the city for a number of years, being on the staffs of the McKinley and Madison schools. In 1903 she was married to John L. Bacon.
She was an active worker in the Frist Presbyterian church for many years. She was a member of the Lois Society, Westminster Circle, and Missionary Society of the congregation and was also prominent in girl Scout activities.
She is survived by the widower; two sons, John L. Jr., and Donald, both of this city, brother Henry, of Minneapolis; two sisters, Mrs. John Rusboldt and Miss Minnie Nienaber of this city.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home from 7 o'clock tonight until the hour of the services.
