Retired GMC desk clerk was devoted to family
Irene B. Deroba, 92, of 902 Trevorton Road, Shamokin, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at the home of her son, William Deroba, with whom she lived for the past 16 years. Born in Trevorton, on June 20, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Kerstetter) Braubitz. She was first married to Anthony Deroba who preceded her in death. Later remarried Joseph C. Deroba who preceded her in death.
Irene was a lifelong resident of Trevorton. She attended Trevorton schools. Early in life she worked in local garment factories and retired as a desk clerk from Geisinger Medical Center Bush Pavilion, Danville.
She was a member of St. Patrick Church, Trevorton, Council of Catholic Women. She was a Religious Education teacher for many years, a member of Trevorton Patsies and a den mother for Cub Scouts.
Irene was a devoted mother and grandmother and was well known by many as Aunt Irene and Gram. She was an avid Phillies fan.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Joseph and Marian Deroba of Freehold, N.J., William and Judy Deroba of Trevorton Road, and Richard and Carol Deroba of Danville; son-in-law, James Garrett of Tulsa, Okla.; 11 grandchildren: James, Melissa, Christopher, Christian, Joseph, Jonathan, Aaron, Mark, Todd Deroba, Julie Deerdorf and Jeana Drew; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: one daughter, Joanne Garrett; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon Deroba; one brother, William Braubitz; and two sisters, Mary Walsh and Catherine Deroba.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, 331 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton. Officiating will be a parish Friar. Viewing will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 with a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m. at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Trevorton. Relatives and friends planning on attending the Funeral Mass are asked to meet Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. at the Church.
