Carl Evans moved to Wichita, Kansas in the early 1900s and went to work for the Jones Motor Company. He married Ethel Luellen Quincy on June 6, 1910 in Wichita, Kansas and they had one daughter, Dorothy C. Evans (1911-2003). Carl listed his place of birth as Rushville, Indiana on his marriage license application and as Howard County, Indiana on his World War II draft registration.

Carl gave his middle name as "Edgar" on his marriage license application and as "Edward" on his World War II Draft Registration.

He became an automobile racing driver and won the first "Free-for-all" automobile race ever run in Wichita.

He changed his place of employment to the Arnold Auto Company in Wichita in 1914 and sold the first Dodge Automobile ever delivered in Wichita later that same year.

In 1922, Carl became the automobile racing promoter at the Meridian Speedway in Wichita. He remained with the Arnold Auto Company until 1933 when he founded the Evans Motor Company in Wichita adding new Plymouth automobiles to his new Dodge dealership. His daughter, Dorothy, became the office manager of the dealership and later became part owner of the company.

In 1952, Carl sold the Evans Motor Company to Ben P. Robinson although Carl remained a director in the new dealership.
