Disc Jockey - Record Producer - Recording Artist

Mal Sondock was a native Texan who came to fame as a disc jockey, radio host, producer and singer. He had a distinctive voice and manner that were iconic for a generation of listeners, especially in Germany.

He began working in radio at the age of 17. After that, he went to Germany as a soldier for AFN, and he enjoyed arranging dance parties with recorded music rather than with a live band. This is recognized as the birth of discotheks in Germany.

He later joined the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), and in 1967 had his own live broadcast program, "Diskothek im WDR", with a popular feature being an audience participation feature called "Hit oder Niete" (Hit or Not?")
