Nellie married Dr. Isaac Rowell, possibly in Maine, and two children were borne from this union: Frank A. Rowell (born about 1864 in Maine), and Imogene Rowell (born about 1867 in San Francisco, CA). By 1866, Dr. Isaac Rowell had a thriving medical practice in San Francisco, CA.
On August 25, 1872, Mrs. Nellie Hale Rowell, the widow of Dr. Isaac Rowell, married her late husband's nephew, Dr. Chester A. Rowell (reportedly in McLean County, Illinois). Chester continued to care for his stepchildren Frank and Imogene after Nellie Rowell's death in 1881.
Dr. Chester Rowell initially came to Fresno in 1874 to look over property that belonged to Mrs. Rowell.
In 1875 the family moved to the southeast corner of Tulare and K (Van Ness) Street across from Courthouse Park. The site is now the home of the six-story Rowell Building built by the Rowell Family in 1911.
To date, little else is known of Nellie Rowell, but the search continues.....
