Pfc. Adam C. Ross, 19, of Lyman, S.C., died July 24, in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when he encountered small arms fire. Ross was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy. Ross graduated a semester early from James F. Byrnes High School at the end of 2010, and enlisted in the Army on April 4, 2011, He followed two family role models into the military — his father, Staff Sgt. Dudley Ross, who served 10 years in the U.S. Navy before transferring to the Army National Guard, and his brother, U.S. Army Pfc. Jonathan Ross, 24, who is stationed in South Korea. Visitation for Ross will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church, 1300 Locust Hill Road, Greer. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, followed by burial at Wood Memorial Park on Gap Creek Road in Lyman. Published in Spartanburg Herald-Journal from August 2 to August 3, 2012.
