Two local couples will observe their 10th wedding anniversaries this week Mr and Mrs William McGough of 100 Garfield Avenue were wed 10 years ago on April 15 and Mr and Mrs Joseph Tierney of Mays Mills were wed 40 years ago on April 17. Neither couple is planning any celebration of the event except possibly to eat dinner out.
The McGoughs had a very simple early morning wedding in St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev John R Fitzsimmons officiating. They were attended by James H. Grady and Margaret Powers of Penn Yan who is now the Mrs. Roger Madigan of Elmira.
Mr. McGough is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGough. Born at Milo Center he has spent his entire life in Milo. Mrs. McGough nee Elizabeth Grady is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Grady. She was born in Pulteney.
At the time of their marriage Mr. McGough was working as clerk in the Lown's Drygoods store. Mrs. McGough was book keeper and cashier for the two stores owned and operated by John Ciamei situated in the space now occupied by the Grant and J C Penney stores. She recalls that the long corridor had not been taken out from between the two stores and the .... cash carriers at the counters ran along this hallway to her office.
Since their marriage they have lived in Penn Yan. Beginning on his llth year now Mr. McGough has served as Milo Town clerk. Mrs McGough has been deputy town clerk for the same length of time.
They have one son George McGough. of Penn Yan and one granddaughter Barbara Ann.. . .
