Arnold was living in Grafton, ND when he entered the service and was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

He was Killed in Action while on patrol in the "Little Gibraltar" area of North Korea on February 19, 1953.

Private First Class Houdek was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
