The funeral service for Lewis E. Alexander, 52, a resident of the Mills River community, who died Monday in an Asheville hospital, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Mills River Methodist Church.
The Rev. M.M. Workman, pastor, will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Drivers of the Trailways Bus Co., will serve as active pallbearers and employees and Drs. F.O. Trotter, Bruce Franz, Lewis Sommerville and William F. Hillier will serve as honorary pallbearers. He will remain at Thomas Shepherd Funeral Home until 1:30 p. m. and then lie in state at the church. He was a native of Buncombe County and a resident of this county for about 25 years. He had been employed as a driver with Smoky Mountain Trailways for about 28 years and was one of the company's first regular drivers. He was a son of Lewis E. Alexander and the late Mrs. Celia Shepherd Alexander. Surviving are the father; the widow, Mrs. Mary Sprouse Alexander; two sons, Robert and Steve of the home; two daughters, Nancy and Cathey of the home; a grandchild; three brothers, Paul of Avery's Creek, Herbert of Hendersonville and Jack of Baltimore, Md.; and six sisters, Mrs. Connie Morrison and Mrs. Ethel Cook of Avery's Creek, Mrs. Mabel Wilson, Mrs. Willie Jackson and Mrs. Nellie Taylor of West Asheville, and Mr. Ruby Charlton of Columbus, Ohio.
