Emile M. Baumhauer Jr. MD passed away at home on July 23, 2012. He was born October 3, 1926 in Meridian MS to the late Sallie Neville Baumhauer and Emile M. Baumhauer Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Marcia Young Baumhauer and his children Chris Baumhauer and wife Sheila McCaffery Baumhauer of San Francisco CA, Suzanne Baumhauer Kimbrough and husband Kim Kimbrough of Lillian AL, Bill Baumhauer and wife Stacey Shields Baumhauer of Pascagoula MS, Sallie Baumhauer Noblin and husband JefTNoblin MD of Ocean Springs MS. Grandchildren Madelyn Kimbrough Butler and husband Andrew Butler of Madison MS, Kathleen Kimbrough of Lillian AL, Sam, Ashley, James and Blake Noblin of Ocean Springs MS, Clare and Will Baumhauer of Pascagoula MS. Cousins Robert L. Donald Jr. MD and Robert Joseph Dempster of Pascagoula MS, Suzanne Onderdonk and Suzanne Drew of Mobile AL, Mary Donald Weems of Meridian MS, David Neville of Conyers GA, George Neville of Jackson MS, Sally Neville of Nashville TN.
In his early life, Dr. Baumhauer lived in Fairhope AL, Lake City FL, and Alexandria LA. He graduated from high school in Ashville NC. He attended Tulane University undergraduate with the Navy V12 program. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. His first two years of Medical School were at the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Medical fraternity Phi Chi. His last two years of Medical School were spent at Tulane where he graduated in 1950. His internship was at Charity Hospital in New Orleans LA. He did a family practice residency at the hospital in Pineville LA (Alexandria).
Dr. Baumhauer served in the Navy, attached to the Marines for two years before coming to Pascagoula where he practiced medicine for 47 years. Dr. Baumhauer loved his patients and they in turn loved and respected him. He was the first Chief of Staff of the new Singing River Hospital. Dr. Baumhauer was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church serving on the Vestry and as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, Maskers Carnival Society, Singing River Yacht Club, Charter member of the local US Power Squadron. He enjoyed tennis, boating, fishing (especially fly fishing) and loved the Barrier Islands at all times of the year.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula on Friday July 27th. Services at 12:00 with visitation from 10:00-12:00.
