Gibson, Maurice R., went to be with the Lord on Sept 18, 2008. Born July 15, 1921 in Lawrenceburg, KY, he grew up in and spent most of his working life in Lexington, Ky. He was a graduate of Lexington Henry Clay High School. He served his country in World War II in the U.S. Army as a Field Artillery Sgt in Germany. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on Sept 14, 1945. He then partnered with Harris Park and purchased a small grocery store located on the corner of Maxwell and Broadway named Park and Gibson. In 1952 he went to work for the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 with 30 years of service.

He was predeceased by his father Horace Raymond Gibson and his mother Maggie Mae Colvin Gibson, two sisters Geneva Gibson Williams, Jean Gibson Jones, two brothers James Robert Gibson, Charles William Gibson and his first wife of 35 years Mary Ellen Flynn Gibson.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years Bettie McDaniel Wright Gibson, son Ronald David Gibson & daughter-in-law Glenda Keeney Gibson of Scottsdale Arizona and son Richard Colvin Gibson & daughter-in-law Rosemary Sharp Gibson of Lexington, Kentucky. He has two grandchildren Brian Colvin Gibson and Brent Cameron Gibson both of Lexington. He is survived by his brother Lewis Wilt Gibson and sister Marie Gibson Hartley and by his step children Wayne Wright & daughter-in-law Joy, Nora Wright Alexander and son-in-law Greg, Jimmy Wright and Dawn Schwaner, 10 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 pm at Milward-Southland, Sun, Sept 21, 2008. Funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home on Mon, Sept 22, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with internment to follow at the Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Pall Bearers will be Brian Gibson, Brent Gibson, Jimmy Wright, John Beck, Ken Fiser, Herb Noll, Henry Rogers and Larry Ledbetter. Honorary Pall Bearer will be Wilbur (Buster) Fugett.
