William Herschel Smith, 85, of Victoria, died Tuesday in a Houston hospital following a short illness.
He was born Feb. 10, 1901, in Bunceton, Mo., to the late Peter Franklin and Margaret Ida Cordry Smith. A retired carpenter, Mr. Smith had lived in Victoria since 1961, and was owner of Smith Carpet Cleaning. He was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church and of Carpenter's Union No. 1423.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Branch officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Pauline Neale Smith; two daughters, Darlene Loughridge, Mathis; Dorothy Thompson, Corpus Christi; two sons, Thomas C. Smith, Victoria; William F. Smith, Houston; 11 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Thomas C. Smith, Jr., Gary Lassman, David Stewart, Tommy Staples, Jr., Albert Bazzy, Minor Smith, J. Wise, Dr. Theodore Thompson and Robert Bissey.
