Caroline C. Stamps was born in 1841, daughter of William Shackelford Stamps and his first wife Virginia Bunch McCutcheon Stamps.

Caroline appears to have lived in St. Louis and in her parents' home throughout most of her life, as she was in their household during the US Census of 1850 and 1880. She died at age 42 in 1883 in the State Insane Asylum in Fulton, MO and was buried in her family's plot with her parents, grandparents John and Mary Stamps and siblings Norman H. and Mary E. Stamps.
