"Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated yesterday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Barton, Md., for Leo W. Ryan, 69, 124 Main Street, Westernport, Md., who died 20 September 1991 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. Burial was in St. Peter Cemetery, Westernport, where military honors were accorded by Victory Post 155 and Kelly-Mansfield Post 52, American Legions and Queens Point Memorial Post 6775, VFW.

Serving as pallbearers were Joe Niland, Richard Niland, Mike Niland, Jim Niland, Pat Ryan, Dale Ryan, David Ryan and Joe Shank. Honorary pallbearers were John Krumpach, George Cook, Clyde Davis, Art Nofsinger, Pat Noonan and Frank Price. Boal-Warnick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Born 18 August 1922 in Westernport, he was the son of the late Ira T. and Mamie (Dailey) Ryan.

Mr. Ryan was an Army veteran of World War II. He saw combat in five major battle campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes Region, Rhineland and Central Europe while in the service from January 1943 to December 1945. He retired from Westvaco Luke mill in October 1987 after 46 years of employment.

Never married, Mr. Ryan was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Victory Post 155, American Legion; Queens Point Memorial Post 6775, VFW, McCoole, the Wepco Credit Union and Luke Local 676, UPIU. He was on the first team of the Westvaco Ball Club when it was organized in 1938, and was a social member of Kelly-Mansfield Post 52, American Legion, Piedmont.

He is survived by two brothers, I. Emmett Ryan and Richard J. Ryan, both of Westernport; one sister Mrs. Edmond J. (Mary Louise) Niland, Piedmont; seven nephews and two nieces.

Memorials may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society or the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad."
