His wife Barbara was the first to be buried in the Groce Cemetery in 1835. He followed in 1839.

He served in the Revolutionary War and was wounded in his right arm at the battle of Hanging Rock in

South Carolina, after a week in hospital he went back to the fight.∼Early Times in Clinton Co., Vol. I, Jack Ferguson, p. 130...Theobald Gross was known variously as Ewald, Dewald, and in Clinton county, as Duvll Groce and Tywalt Groce.
