W.A. BARTEL DIES MONDAY AT HIS HOME
Contractor Will Be Buried On Thursday From St. John’s Evangelical Church
William A. Bartel, 60, died at his home, 1901 Western Avenue, Monday afternoon
following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the St.
John’s Evangelical church, the Rev. Paul H. Blaufuss officiating. Burial will
be made in the Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Bartel was born in Manitowoc August 17, 1875. For the past thirty years he
has been engaged in the mason contractor business. He helped build many of the
important buildings in Manitowoc, including the Willott Block and the Sacred
Heart church. As a young man he played on the city baseball team.
Mr. Bartel married Emma Dusold on December 3, 1906. She survives. He was a
member of the Odd Fellows, the Eagles and the Freier Saengerbund.
Survivors, besides his wife, include his mother, Mrs. Edward Bartel; a daughter,
Bernice, at home; four brothers, Albert of Milwaukee and Frank, Arthur and
Charles, all of Manitowoc; and three sisters, Mrs. Alex Zeischold, Mrs. Bertha
Schleisleder and Mrs. Walter Zeischold, all of Manitoowc.
The body will lie at the Pfeffer funeral home from Wednesday morning until 11
o’clock Thursday morning when it will be removed to the St. John’s Evangelical
church. It will lie in state at the church from 11 o’clock until the time of
the services.
