MARY BACKUS
Mrs. John Backus, 55, of 2615 Sheridan Pl., Manitowoc, died unexpectedly
Saturday afternoon at home.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Backus, the former Mary Hogan, was born April 14, 1912, at Maple Grove,
daughter of the late John and Catherine Brennan Hogan. She was educated at
Maple Grove School, Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, and Mount Mary College,
Milwaukee, and was married to Mr. Backus, Oct. 14, 1936. He died Oct. 22, 1952.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society.
Survivors include two sons, Don, of Albany, N.Y., and Jim of Manitowoc and a
daughter, Miss Judy, of Elm Grove, Wis., a brother, Sherman, of Manitowoc and
two grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday where at 7 p.m. the
Rosary will be recited.
