Mrs. Josephine Backus, 89, a lifelong Manitowoc County resident, died Thursday
at St. Mary Home, Manitowoc.
Private family funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic
Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Duane Dionne will officiate and burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Backus, nee Josephine Eisner, was born June 15, 1887, at Alverno, daughter
of the late John and Johanna Steder Eisner. She was married to Ray C. Hallisy
May 2, 1905. He preceded her in death Sept. 9, 1915. She was married to Harvey
Backus Oct. 24, 1931. He preceded her in death Sept. 19, 1950.
Survivors include a son, Leo A. Hallisy, of Manitowoc, a step-son, Carl Backus,
of Texas; two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Marie) DeFaut, of Crooked Lake, Wis., and
Mrs. Louis (Lucille) Ansorge, of Cato; a brother, Edward of Manitowoc; a sister,
Mrs. William (Ella) Waniger, of Manitowoc; 15 grandchildren, 27 great grand-
children. Two sons, Raymond J. and Dr. Richard G. Hallisy; a brother, George;
two sisters, Clara and Amanda; a step-sister, Mary and a grandson, Louis
Ansorge Jr., preceded her in death.
There will be no visitation. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is in charge of
arrangements.
