James's first wife Eliza divorced James and married Hiram Sewel, divorcing him as well. Per a newspaper article about a deathbed confession by Hiram (Hy) he confessed to killing Sandy Young (best friend of Hi Good) and throwing his body into the Klamath. Sandy was never found. Hiram says he did it because Sandy took off with Hirams wife. So did he kill Eliza too?..hmmmm then several small articles were published stating the confession was not true.

OBITUARY 1834 OROVILLE
A PIONEER GONE
Death of J. O. Moseley After a Lingering Illness
While many knew that Mr. Moseley was seriously ill they did not know that he was so near the dark river over which he passed yesterday afternoon. A short time ago he was downtown and while he was hardly able to be about he was cheerful and laughed and joked with his old friends over his 50 years in California, for the day he came down on the street he had been in the Golden State just fifty years.
He came from Missouri, where he was born, crossed the plains with teams and came to Butte, where for many years he lived in the foothills about Berry Creek and Bidwell Bar, and mined for a living. He then went to farming and teaming and as long as he was able to work he continued in that business.
He moved to this town a number of years ago and resided in this town or close to it since that date. He was attacked with Bright's disease of the kidneys and medical treatment could not cure him.
He was a member of Oroville lodge No. 103 F, & AM, and his remains will be buried by that organization.
He leaves a wife, one daughter, and two sons to mourn his death.
Yesterday morning he was happy and cheerful and when visited by Dr. Karaner and Geo. Geisse he laughed and joked merrily. He was a good-hearted, honest and industrious man all his life.
