His life was filled with serving and enriching those around him. He was a professor of English at Brigham Young University, teaching and touching the lives of countless students for more than 25 years. He was also heavily involved in the scouting program, serving as Blazer leader, scoutmaster, Varsity leader, Explorer leader, as well as serving on the Varsity District Council Committee. He responded to a call to serve his country in the army at the end of World War II. He cherished his testimony of his savior, and served in numerous LDS Church callings. He served as part of five bishoprics, acting as bishop on two occasions. He also served as a stake clerk and as a temple worker. The calling he loved the most was that of husband, father, and grandfather. He married Janis Wood Aug 25, 1960, and he said that it was "the wisest decision I ever made." Their home was blessed with three sons: John Glen McKellar, Gary Mark McKellar, and Jeffrey Scott McKellar.

Glen had innumerable talents and interests. He loved camping and hiking in the great outdoors. Arches National Park and Timpanogos Campground became a second home for him and his family. He loved reading classic literature, and spent countless hours reading to his children, his wife, and himself. He enjoyed a vigorous lifestyle, spending hours walking along the mountainside each day and schooling numberless challengers on the racquetball court.
