Rev. Lawrence S. Anderson, 85, of Chesterton, died September 27, 2003. He was 85. He was born and raised in Jackson Twp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie (Nicholson) in 1997.

He is survived by 3 sons, Richard (Vickie) or Portland, Ore., Paul (Susan) of Rochester, Minn. and Philip (Barbara) of Valparaiso; a daughter, Mary of Wheaton, Ill.; six grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and 3 siblings, Olga Korthals, John Anderson and Mary Obermeier.

He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Carl, Douglas and William.

An Army Air Force veteran, he served in the China, Burma, India Theater during World War II. He graduated from Valparaiso University and Augustana Seminary, Rock Island, Ill. After being a Lutheran pastor for 31 years, with parishes in Stratford, Iowa and Prophetstown, Ill., he retired in 1983 and returned to Chesterton.

While a pastor in Illinois, he was a national board member of Good Samaritan Society Nursing Homes, on committees to establish Sauk Valley College, and a member of board of directors of Winning Wheels, Inc. Due to his many
contributions to the community throughout the years, he was listed in the Dictionary On International Biography, Cambridge and London, England and twice in Who's Who in the Midwest.

Funeral services, Rev. Ronald Larson officiating, are scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Chesterton. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church - Building Fund, 2050 W. 1100N, Chesterton, IN 46304.
