The Rev. Frank D. Gilbert, Jr. "Lane"

The Rev. Frank D. Gilbert, Jr. "Lane", 39, of Portage, IN, passed away Thursday, May 29, 1997 at Porter Memorial Hospital. He was a dedicated firefighter and paramedic for the city of Portage. An Ordained Deacon of the Holy Ressurrection Orthodox Church of Hobart, he served as Chaplin of the Portage Fire Department. He was extremely active as a Navy Corps man and was assigned to the US Marine Corps. A member of STAR Team (Special Trauma and Rescue) also very active in numberous community and civic affairs. A 1976 graduate of Highland High School. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly (nee Bacon); three children: David, Christine and emily, all at home' parents, Frank D. and Wanda Gilbert of Hebron; one sister, C. Sue (Tim) Braun of California; maternal grandparents, Christine and William Gray of alabama; mother and father-in-law, William and Betty Bacon of Highland; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 3, 1997 with Divine Liturgy beginning at 8:30 am at the SS. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, Indiana with Rt. Rev. Bishop Dmetri Khoury officiating.
Visitation will be hel Monday at Holy Ressurrection Prthodox Church, 305 East 6th Street, Hobart, Indiana. A Ttisagian Prayer Service will be offered on Monday at 7 pm. A Portage Fire Department final salute will precede interment at Portage High School at 12:30 pm Tuesday. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
