Walter Kwasny MANTUA TWP. Walter Kwasny, 82 years of age, longtime Mantua area resident, passed away Monday December 24, 2007 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna. Walter was born in Mammoth, Pennsylvania on June 29, 1925 the son of the late John and Caroline (Komperda) Kwasny.
He was employed at Ford Motor Company for 33 years, retiring in 1988, and several years at Ford he was a crib attendant. He was a member of Local 420 UAW. Walt was a .U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served with the 83rd. Infantry Division in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operation. Walt received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal, and was a M-1 Rifle expert. He was the 1st lifetime member of Aurora Post No 2629 V.F.W. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, he was a member of Pope Plus XII Knights of Columbus in Mantua, being a 4th. Degree Knight. Walt also was a charter member of Father John Cassidy Assembly.
On May 22, 1946, he married Betty (Sinko) Kwasny whom survives at their home. Also surviving is his son Gary S. (Karen) Kwasny of Tuscon, Arizona; brothers Joe (Tessie); Edward (Lillian); Carl (Sue) and Stanley (Gail); sisters Pauline Arnold; Ann Hill; Henrietta; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons Dale in 1997 and Walt in 2005; brothers Andy and John and sister Helen.
Calling hours are Friday (TODAY) from 6-8 P.M. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua, where prayers will be said Saturday at 9:15 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday December 29, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mantua, with Rev. Fr. Michael Balash officiating. Final resting place for Walt will be at Aurora City Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials take the form of donations to St. Joseph's School in his name.
