Found in The State 14 February 1969: Mrs. William Shannon Nelson of 106 South Woodrow St. died Thursday in Columbia Hospital. She was the former Nina Geddes, daughter of Harriet and James Geddes of Spartanburg. Her husband died in 1939. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Altar Guild, the Daughters of the Holy Cross, a charter member of the Columbia Garden Club and The Assembly. She was educated at Converse College and Miss. Cary's Private School in Baltimore, Md. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William Weston Jr., and Mrs. Dwight S. Andrews; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Note: The links for her parents are an educated guess only using her obituary as a guide but they make sense as Nina is found on the 1900 US Census for Spartanburg Ward 4, Spartanburg, SC as a 17 year old living in the home of Thomas and Selena A. Means and she is listed as their adopted daughter. James and Hattie both died in the early 1890's making Nina an orphan at a young age.
