He was born in the town of Fairfield, son of Charles M. and Margaret Forbes Helmer and attended Fairfield Seminary.
Mr. Helmer married Linda Crisman in 1888.
He followed the occupation of farming for 37 years and also was an employee of the Standard Furniture Company.
Besides his widow, he leaves a brother, Charles H., Herkimer; three sisters, Mrs. John H. Fulmer, Mrs. Eva Benson and Mrs. Elva Potter, all of Herkimer.
He was a member of Herkimer Masonic Lodge, Fort Dayton and Pomona Granges.
