Born in Ledgedale, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Brink) Cawley.
Mrs. Monks had worked as a barber for the Charles Johnson Home, Phoenixville, PA, for 18 years until retiring in 1964. Previously, she was employed as a waitress for the Washington House, Sellersville, PA, and the Perkasie Order of Owl's Nest. Before that, she worked at the former Snyder's Cigar Factory, Perkasie, and the Perkasie Girdle Factory. A former member of the Women of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 1539, Sellersville, she enjoyed, sewing, and flower gardening.
She is survived by a son, William C. Swope and his wife Beatrice (Clemmer), of Perkasie; three grandchildren, William C. Swope, Jr. and his wife Susan, of Quakertown, PA, Charles Swope and his fiancée Lisa Fluck, of Center Valley, PA, and Sandra (Swope) Mellas and her husband Mark, of Tunkhannock, PA; two great grandchildren, Thomas and Victoria Swope, of Quakertown; and a sister, Mary Dugan, of Ledgedale.
A Time for Sharing will be held Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 12:00 Noon in the Bernard Suess Funeral Home, 606 Arch Street, Perkasie, PA. Entombment will be in the Perkasie Mausoleum, Perkasie. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Hennessey's Funeral Home, 208 Jackson Avenue, Susquehanna, PA 18847, or Saturday morning from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at the Bernard Suess Funeral Home.
