Jimmy has been a lifelong resident of Bryan County and he attended school at Cobb and graduated from Silo High School. His class was the first at Silo and was responsible for the school colors and mascot "Rebels". Jimmy married Sharon Risner on October 10, 1969 in Durant and they were blessed with two children, Timmy and Tara. Jimmy worked for OG&E as a lineman for 30 years until his retirement and was known by coworkers as "Killer". Jimmy enjoyed fishing, working his cattle, going to the sale barn, watching Silo Rebel basketball but his greatest interest was watching his grandchildren play sports and show livestock. Jimmy was well known for being an honest hard working man.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Newton; parents Lloyd and Thelma Newton; brother Dane Newton; father in law Murrell Risner and brother in law Terry Risner.
Jimmy is survived by his children Timmy Newton and wife Christy and Tara Sharp and husband Brad all of Durant; grandchildren Madison Taylor Newton, Colton Ray Stephens, Riley Paige Newton, Cooper Shane Stephens and Colbey Lane Stephens; brother Wayne Newton and wife Becky of McKinney, TX; sisters Kay Holland and husband Don, Janelle Adams, Doretha Harp and husband Farris and Elaine Slater and husband Don all Arkansas and companion Linda Carroll.
Services celebrating Jimmy's life will be held at 10:00 AM at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel. Tommy Rowland and Steve Watson will officiate. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with Scott Allen, Leo Geer, Steve Phelps, Craig Callicoat, Larry Marksberry, Vernon Johnson, Ray Tubbs and Dewey Reynolds serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Mullens, Steve Dill, Curtis Daniel, Eddie Williams, Kenny McDonald, Jim Stuart and Gary Phelps.
