George was a community leader, builder and family man. In the eighth grade he began working alongside his father and thus began a career in carpentry that became his lifetime calling. He lived his life building. He bought the Devine Lumber Yard in 1962 and joined the board of directors of the Bank of Texas in 1987. He took great joy in his work at the Medina County Sheltered Workshop and was a Deacon of Black Creek Baptist Church Community helping with the construction of the present church facility.

His parents were: Thomas N. Wilkerson and Carrie O. Sanders Wilkerson.

He married Mattie Frances Hicks Sept 7, 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1988.
He later married his childhood friend, Janeta Close who also preceded him in death in 2003.

He and Frances had 4 children:
Patricia Ann Wilkerson Woods
Martha Frances Wilkerson
Richard Earl Wilkerson
David Thomas Wilkerson.

He has gone on ahead to help the Master Carpenter build.
