Stricken at Bar, Armstrong Dies
Stricken with a heart attack while standing at the bar in Orville's tavern at
Washington and South 10th street shortly after 9:30 a.m. today, John Armstrong,
retired shipyard employee, died a few minutes later.
Mr. Armstrong, 66, of 1316 South 31st street had stepped into the tavern with
his wife only seconds before. As he walked up to the bar, he collapsed. Coroner
Theodore Teitgen pronounced him dead shortly after.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the Pfeffer funeral home,
the Rev. Pritzl officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Canada in 1883. He came to the United States (?) years
ago and to Manitowoc 28 years ago. In 1916 he married Josephine Wagner. He was a
retired employed of the Manitowoc Ship Building company, having worked at the
yards for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter Loretta at home, and two sons, Leo of Two
Rivers and John of New York City. A third son, Bernard, was killed in France in
World War II.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 p.m. Sunday until time of services.
