NIELS ANDERSON DOXROD (d. 1886)

DIED
In this city, July 27, 1886, Neils Anderson(sic), aged nearly seventy-two
years. Mr. Anderson was born Dec. 2, 1814(sic) at Gjerpen Sogn, Norway. He
was married October 14, 1936 to Thurine Berberg and had he lived until
October 14 of the present years, their golden wedding would have been
celebrated. In his youth he followed mining with his father. He emigrated
to America in the year 1854 with his family, consisting of his wife and four
children, two sons and two daughters, the sons are E.N. Anderson of Bay View,
Door County, and A.N. Anderson of this city; the daughters are Mrs. Andrew
Hanson and Mrs. Capt. Christensen, both of this city.
On coming to this country, the family landed in Sheboygan, Wis., and came overland
by team to Manitowoc on the 13th day of July, 1855. He was one of the oldest
Norwegian settlers in this city having lived here thirty-one years and was much
esteemed by all who knew him.
His health was never good as he contracted consumption at the age of twenty-two
from exposure while spearing salmon in Norway and this disease followed him more
or less to the time of his death. He was buried last Thursday from the Norwegian
Lutheran Church and his funeral was attended by a large number of friends.
