MARIE ANDERSON

Mrs. Bertha Marie Anderson, 90, (photo), widow of Capt. Peter Anderson,
died last night at the home, 711 North Seventh street. She had been
confined to her bed for six months, but despite failing health retained
her faculties to the end and insisted on reading newspapers and keeping
abreast of world happenings.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m., from the residence, the
Rev. Ernest Zoerb of the First Lutheran church officiating. Interment
will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson, nee Bertha Marie Hansen, was born at Kragero, Norway, in
1849 and in 1872 came to Manitowoc with her parents. She was married at
the First Lutheran church here to Captain Peter Anderson, an early day
shipbuilder and vessel master.
Mrs. Anderson was active in church work and was a member of the Ladies
Aid Society of the congregation. In 1933 the couple observed the sixtieth
anniversary of their marriage. Capt. Anderson died April 18, 1935.
Survivors are three daughters, Barbara, Hannah and Henrietta, all of this
city; a son, former Alderman Peter Anderson of this city; brother, Captain
Ole Hansen of Kragero, Norway; sister, Mrs. Thea Idarius of Chicago.
The body will be moved to the Anderson home on North Seventh street
Thursday from the Shimek and Schwartz funeral parlors, and may be viewed
until the hour of services Friday.
