Lee Walter Hamilton, 93, of Pocatello, passed away Friday morning, July 20, 2012, at a local health care center.
Lee was born September 16th, 1918, to Lee Whitfield Hamilton and Sarah Lavinia Morris at Ignacio, Colorado. He was the oldest of nine children. His family moved to Mountain Home, Idaho, when he was in high school. He served in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Great Britain and France during World War II from 1941 - 1945.
Upon his return, he married Margaret Halbert, of Jerome, Idaho, and they lived in Boise where Lee worked in construction. He went to college on the G.I. Bill at Boise Junior College and later finished at the University of Idaho in Moscow, graduating with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Extension Services in 1952. Later Lee, Margret, and kids, moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, where he obtained a Master's Degree in Soil Sciences, graduating in 1961. After Lee's graduation, they moved back to Council, Idaho, where he worked for farmers as an Extension Agent. Later, in 1968, he became the 4-H agent at Fort Hall Indian Reservation, and later became an Extension Agent for Bannock County. After retirement, Lee kept busy with carpentry and construction jobs for several years locally.
Lee was a very active member of the United Methodist Church, including a service mission to Nicaragua in 1987 to assist with construction of a school. Lee was an active member of the Keystone Lodge, No. 81, Yorkrite, the Red Cross of Constantine, and the Radiant Chapter of Eastern Star. He was a three-time Patron of Radiant, a Worshipful Master at the American Falls Lodge, and Secretary of the Keystone Lodge.
Lee and Margaret had five children: Alan Hamilton (deceased), Tom Hamilton, Sally Obendorf, Marian Gebhart, and Sue Hamilton (died at birth). He is survived by his wife of 66 years, his 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Russ Hamilton, and his sisters Pauline Moody and Mary Smith. He is preceded by his parents, siblings Leonard, Carl, Jim, Clara, and Maxine, and son Alan and daughter Sue.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, corner of 15th Ave. and Clark Street, Pocatello, with Chaplain Kirk Bitton, conducting. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery will Masonic graveside rites by the Keystone Lodge No. 81 A.F. & A.M.
