Bessie Lea Shipman Riggs, age 90, passed from this life on Sunday, July 15, 2012 in Odessa, Texas.

Bessie was born near Glass Texas in Somervell County on December 22, 1921 to Daniel and Willie (Ice) Shipman. Bessie had a deep and abiding faith in a loving God that sustained her through the good times as well as the difficult times. During her journey of over ninety years on this earth, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for a large family, holiday meals, making everyone's favorite dish. We all have fond memories of her chocolate cake, banana pudding, turkey & dressing, German chocolate cake and home-made biscuits. No one ever went home hungry. Bessie loved being a mother and grandmother with her house filled with the noisy laughter of children playing. She always looked for the good in life and in people. She was a gentle and caring lady. Her family was her life, her joy and her happiness. After her last child was in school, she continued her care giving as a CNA at Deerings Nursing Home. In later years, when she was home bound, she enjoyed reading and listening to gospel music.
