Born in McSherrystown, he was a son of the late Cletus J. and Mary Straushbaugh Hockensmith.
He was employed at Pillotex and was a member of the McSherrystown Moose and American Legion Post 14 in Hanover. Mr. Hockensmith was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by four brothers, Paul A. Hockensmith of Hanover, George and Cyril Hockensmith, both of Harington, Del., and William Hockensmith of Essix, England; four sisters, Sister Mary Conisa of Harrisburg, Anna Krichten and Genevieve Hetrich, both of McSherrystown and Helena Dettrey of Georgia.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at the Annunciation Cemetery in McSherrystown with the Rev. Paul M. Miller officiating.
