Barney J. Byars died at 7:00 a.m. today at his home on RFD 3, Bluford. He was 88 years, ten months, and 22 days old.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Wells Chapel church with the Rev. Rolla Eller officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, where friends may call after 9:00 a.m. tomorrow.
Mr. Byars was born Aug. 6, 1871, near Kell, the son of Martin and Malissa (Wells) Byars.
On Aug. 24, 1895, in Jefferson county, he was married to Bertha E. Greenwalt, who survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Clair O. Byars of Keenes, Roger E. Byars of Centralia, and Walter Byars of Chicago; a daughter, Mrs. Flo E. Morgan of Centralia; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Byars, who was the last member of the Martin Byars family, was preceded in death by a son, Lou E. Byars, and two daughters, Eva M. and Maudie Marie Byars.
