Elenora Barbara (Griess) Ackerman Miller, 95, of Grand Island, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Wedgewood Care Center. Elenora was born August 26, 1916, at Sutton, NE, the daughter of Edgar and Rachel (Peter) Griess.

Elenora grew up in the Sutton area, and attended county grade schools until the 8th grade. Elenora couldn't speak English when she started school, so the school sent her home and she was told she had to learn English before returning.

Elenora married Karl Ackerman on August 30, 1936 at Sutton, Nebraska and was married for 51 years. To this marriage 5 children were born; Coleen Ackerman, Allan Ackerman, Arlen Dean Ackerman, Karen Ackerman Gruener, and Janelle Ackerman Stelk. Karl Passed away in 1987. Elenora then married Roy Miller in 1992, and Roy passed away in 2009.

Elenora and Karl worked in the sugar beet and potato fields in Gering, NE until returning to the Phillips area where they farmed for many years. Elenora worked in Sutton at a creamery, a diner in Fairmont, and at Wolbach's and Kaufman's in Grand Island. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed having the family over for a German/Russian dinner of Borscht, Blachinda and Kutchen. She relished her family and was always there with a helping hand. Elenora and her husband's spent many winters in Texas where Elenora loved to fish. Also, she was an avid dancer and belonged to the Platte Duetsche, the Eagles, and the Liederkranz. She was an active member of the Extension Club of Hamilton County and also many card clubs. She was also a member of United Congregational Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are: children and their spouses, Allan and Joann Ackerman of Tampa, FL, Arlen Dean and Darlene Ackerman of Hastings, NE, Karen and Duane Gruener of Phillips, NE and Janelle and Dennis Stelk of Phillips; step children and their spouses, Janet and David Gilleylen of Arvada, CO and Larry and Karen Miller of Grand Island, NE; brothers and their wives, Ivan and Florence Griess of Lodi, CA and Louis and Regina Griess of Apto's, California; sisters, Verna Schmer of Sutton, NE and Ruth Reichert of Gering, NE; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 11 step great grandchildren

Elenora was preceded in death by: parents; husbands, Karl Ackerman and Roy Miller; daughter Coleen; granddaughter, Lindsey; sister LeNea Winters; brothers, Will, Marlin, Keith, and Curt Griess.

Burial was in the Phillips Cemetery, Phillips, NE.
