A. Helen (Frattone) Russo, 95, widow of Ben J. Russo, died Nov. 30, 2011 at Riverside Health Care Center.
She was born Feb. 4, 1916 in Ardmore, PA to the late Joe and Katarina Frattone, the second of eight children. She attended local schools, was an honor student despite starting school only speaking Italian.
In 1937 she married the love of her life, Ben. In 1941 they relocated to Los Alamos, NM, and eventually to Albuquerque, where they spent many happy years.
Helen worked in the medical insurance field for many years, but her most rewarding job was that of a mother, wife, grandmother and friend. Helen was quick with a joke, sharp as a whip, and the glue that held her family together.
In addition to her parents and her husband Ben, Helen is predeceased by her two sons, Steve and Mark, her beloved siblings and many friends.
Helen is survived by her six grandchildren, Chris and his wife Frances, Joe and his wife Michelle, Mat and his wife Amy, Aaron and his wife Crystal, Kirstin, Rena and her husband Jeff. She also leaves behind the joys of life, her 16 great grandchildren to cherish her memory, her daughter-in-law Judy, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Masonicare Hospice and the 3rd floor staff at Riverside Health Care Center for being so kind, professional and loving.
Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation to celebrate Helen's life on Wednesday, (December 7th), from 6-8 p.m. at the Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Albuquerque, NM.
