Rev. Nathan B. Henery was born January 16th, 1807 at Mountville, Waldo County, Maine, of Irish and Welch parentage. With his father came to Ohio in 1814 and settled in Windsor Township, near what is known as “Windsor Baptist Church.” He united with the people of this organization in 1832, and has been connected with the ministry from then up to the time of his death. He has officiated at three hundred and seventy-five marriages and more than four hundred funerals. He married Lucy Holt, Feb. 18, 1827, and the result of this union was five sons and one daughter. She dying Feb. 18, 1839, he married Mrs. Sarah Andrews, a sister of the late A.J. Hossom, well known in Morgan County, and to them was born two sons and one daughter. Father Henery was a patriot always in the front rank standing by the flag, and furnished four sons for the war for the union. To the writer on last election day, he said: “I have been in feeble health all summer but have prayed to be spared until this day to give my vote to Governor McKinley,” and he was deeply gratified while he continued, “I am now ready to be offered.” He peacefully passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 23rd, at 4 o’clock, leaving an aged widow in feeble health and five children to mourn their loss. The world is much better for having lived and his remains were followed to Stockport cemetery on Tuesday by an immense throng of sorrowing friends.
