Mr. Gordon Ammons, 95, retired from Union Carbide Corporation and long-time farmer and resident of Taylor Road in the Knob Creek Community, died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at NHC of Columbia.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Harvel Stockard and Rev. Clark Albright officiating. Burial will be in the Knob Creek Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Knob Creek Cemetery Fund.

A native of Robbinsville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John A. and Laura Sherell Ammons. He was married July 14, 1927 to the former Edrie Taylor of Knob Creek. Mrs. Ammons died December 2, 1994.

He was a long-time member and former Deacon of the Knob Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Edd Noel (Anne) Ammons and Bill Gordon (Molly) Ammons, both of Columbia; three granddaughters, Jennifer (Tom) Grimes of Atlanta, Linda Ammons and Marnie (Ted) Johnson, both of Columbia; two great-grandchildren, Ansley Lynn Grimes of Atlanta and Hardin Johnson of Columbia; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, seven brothers and a granddaughter, Susan Lynn Ammons.

Active pallbearers are Oliver Ammons, Neal Wall, David Ammons, Robert Ammons, Don Taylor, David Taylor, Dwight Jewell and Glenn Goad. Honorary pallbearers are neighbors of the Knob Creek Community and the Deacons and men of the Knob Creek Baptist Church.
