Laura Jean Flattery, 65, of Albia, passed away July 19, 2012, at the Monroe County Hospital.

Laura was born June 3, 1947, in Ottumwa to Kenneth and Jean(Murphy)Bergmeier. She married John Joseph Flattery Sr. on July 13, 1968, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ottumwa. To this union they had two children, John and Amy. John preceded Laura in death on Feb. 15, 2003. A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Class of 1965, Laura attended St.Joseph's School for Nursing in 1971 in Ottumwa.

Laura was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia. She enjoyed reading and listening to all kinds of music. She had a lifelong interest in the violin was in the Southeast Iowa Symphony years age. Laura especially enjoyed spending time with her family, and her children always came first.

Laura is survived by her children, John Flattery of Albia and Amy(Mark)McCurdy of Russell; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kelly, Joseph and David McCurdy; and six siblings, Victoria(William)Grove of Woodbury, Minn., Raymond Bergmeier and Cathy(Jerald)Loyd, both of Ottumwa, Debra(Rick)Shumaker of DeWitt, Mich., Kenneth Jr.(Sara)Bergmeier and Jill(Rob)Thiry, both of Agency.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two siblings, Margie and Danny Bergmeier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia; with Father Michael E.
Volkmer, C.PP.S. officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Georgetown. Visitation will open to the public at 11 am Sunday at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Laura's family present from 6-8 pm. A rosary will be led by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society at 4 pm. Sunday, with a Christian Wake service beginning at 6:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Brees Rest Home in Albia.
