He was born on July 7, 1916 in the town of Two Creeks, to the late Thomas and Catherine (Schleis) Johanek and has been a life long area resident. Dan served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. where he was a baker.On June 5, 1943 he married the former Evelyn Novy, and she preceded him in death on Nov.4,1980. He later married Gladys Schroeder Paplham on Dec.8,2001. He worked as a carpenter for Bohachek Builders, and for the past 30-plus years he was self employed carpenter.He also farmed for many years in the town of Mishicot. He was well known as the local handyman in the Mishicot and Tisch Mills area. He was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Tisch Mills, where he sang in the men's Holy Name Chior. He was also a member of the WI Czech Chorallers and a former member of the Squeeker's Sip Club.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and four daughters-in-laws.11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren.He is further survived by 6 step-children.Survived by one brother; two sisters-in-laws; two brothers-in-laws. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was also preceded in death by one son: Daniel Johanek Jr.; one sister: Helen (Frank) Grimm; one brother-in-law and a nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, Feb.2,2009, at St Isidore the Farmer Nativity of the BVM Catholic Church in Tisch Mills. Burial in the parish Cemetery.
