Thomas J. Johanek, 79,of Two Rivers, the last of the early brass band musicians i the area, playing a bass horn, died Thursday night at Two Rivers Municipal Hospital where he had been a patient several weeks.
Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday at Deja and Martin Funeral Chapels, Two Rivers and at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Tisch Mills. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johanek was born Dec. 14, 1885 in the Town of Two Creeks, on the site of the former Air Force Radar Base. Son of the late Thomas and Mary Parma Johanek. He was engaged in farming his entire lifetime but also did carpentry and masonary work in the area until his retirement. He was one of the original members of the old Sandy Bay Brass Band, later known as the Tisch Mills Brass Band.He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Mary Parish.
Besides his wife, the former Catherine Schleis, whom he married at Norman Nov. 23, 1919, he leaves a daughter and two sons, a brother John, of Los Angeles, Calif. and six grandchildren.
