Vollie C. Hudson Killed In Accident
Cpl. Vollie C. Hudson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Hudson, near Roxana, was killed as a result of an auto accident, just north of Selbyville on the DuPont Highway, Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7:15.
Cpl. Hudson drove his car into the rear of a bus driven by Alphonso Stevenson, colored, Philadelphia. The bus was carrying a colored orchestra from Wilmington, N.C. to Rosedale Beach.
At a coroners inquest, conducted by Sussex County Coroner, William L. Conaway, it was determined that the bus was moving and lighted. Stevenson, the driver of the bus testified that he was traveling at a speed between 15 and 25 miles per hour.
Hudson's car slid in under the right rear of the bus. Dr. G.V. Wood of Millsboro, wherer Hudson was carried, pronounced death due to concussion of the head and possibly other injuries.
Funera services for Cpl. Hudson were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Pilgrim Holiness Church , Roxana with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Bishopville, MD. He is survived by his parents, one brother, Preston and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Hickman, Norfolk, VA.
Cpl. Pusey and Trooper Howell represented the Delaware State Police at the coroner's inquest held in the Watson-Whaley Funeral Home, Selbyville, Friday afternoon of last week.
A 10 gun salute was fired in Cpl. Hudson's honor at Ft. Miles Sunday.
