Services are private for William Carl Desmond, who died Saturday [2 Oct 2004] of respiratory failure. He was 85.
Born in Huntington, W.Va., he had lived in San Jose before moving to Capitola. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Australia. He graduated from Marshall University in West Virginia. He worked as an estimator for GTE Sylvania for 35 years before his retirement. His hobbies included music and art. He sang and played the harmonica and also painted.
He is survived by daughter Leann Baker of Santa Cruz and son William Desmond of Santa Cruz; brother Richard Desmond of Huntington, W.Va.; one grandchild, two nieces, and one nephew. His wife, Mildred, died before him.
Arrangements were by Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz.
