Harvey grew up in rural Mills County, Texas, and enjoyed playing on both the football and basketball teams throughout his school years.

On January 14, 1950 Harvey Miles married Dorothy Clapp, the love of his life, in Baytown, Texas. Harvey and Dot celebrated 62 years of marriage in January, 2012.

They had four children; Linda Kay, Peggy Jean, Melody Anne, and Gary Wayne. But the pride and joy of Harvey's life were his ten grandchildren: Pam, Jon, Jesse, Bob, Sara, Taylor, Justin, Amber, Ric and Erin; and ten equally special great grandchildren.

Harvey worked hard for most of his live; during which time he ran his own plumbing business and served as a plumbing inspector for the City of Odessa, Texas. He also served as mayor of Renner, Texas before it was incorporated into the city of Dallas.

Harvey had several passions, including the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys and country music at the Wylie Opry. The Wylie Opry was a second family to Harvey; being a part of the Opry brought him much joy and kept him young at heart.
