Roscoe Turney, 78, of 103 East St., RR #4, Grinnell, died early Wednesday, Feb 3, at Grinnell General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral home, with the Rev. James Russell of the Grinnell United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The son of Mary Etta Paschal and Hamilton King Turney, he was born July 26, 1903, in Chester Township. He attended area schools and held various jobs before joining the Poweshiek County Highway Department in 1935. He was employed there primarily as a heavy-tractor operator for 34 years before retiring in December 1969.
On May 23, 1931, he was married to Marie Pickering of Grinnell. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year.
Mr. Turney is survived by his wife and a sister, Mary Brignon of Grinnell.
He was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church.
