Son of Ethel Hawkins and James W. Mangum, born March 3, 1921 in Blanding, Utah. Had eight brothers and sisters. Married Sharleen Guymon on April 15, 1946 in the Manti Temple. They were the parents of five children, Jeanie Lee (Jim) Williams, Herriman; Carl Dean; Corie Dawn Hamilton, Copperton; Dave Wesley (Shelley), Sandy; and Ricky Byron (Sandy), American Fork; also survived by a special ex-son-in-law, Kyle Hamilton (Connie), Bountiful; and grandparents of 13 children.
Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; two sisters; son, Carl Dean; and grandson, Tyler James Williams.
Carl served honorably in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the 141st Platoon. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions throughout his life.
He also served as a veil worker at the Jordan River Temple. Carl and Sharleen served a mission together in the Calgary Alberta Mission. Carl was a very talented mechanic, welder and auto body specialist. He used his talents throughout his life to serve and help others.
Services will he held Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Herriman Ward Chapel, where friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Herriman Cemetery.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Richard Whittington and Hospice of Utah, Draper Unit, for their kindness, care, and assistance that allowed Carl to spend his final days at home.
