The son of Charles and Elizabeth Carpenter Ivins, he was a real estate and insurance broker and a member of the County Tax Board.He was a world's champion trap shooter. On August 27, 1920 he hit 99 out of 100 clay pigeons to win the American title, the World Series of Trap Shooting. At age 72 he won the Hogan shoot, hitting 91 out of 100 clay pigeons.He helped the American Trapshooting Association form and grow.
