Based on enlistment, his service included Service of 19th Iowa included move to St Louis Benton Barracks by Steamboat Sep 3 1862. Then to Rolla, Mo Sept 11 by Rail. Sep 16 Marched 125 miles to Springfield, Mo. Oct 16 Marched to Cassville, MO. From Oct 17 -20 marched over 100 miles through icy rivers and mountainous terrain in pursuit of retreating enemy forces. Pursuit continued culminating in Battle of Prairie Grove, Ark Dec 7 1862. Capture of VanBuren, Ar. (Dec 28 1862), Siege of Vicksburg(Jun 14-Jul 4 1863), Capture of Yazoo City( Jul 14), Expedition to Morganza & Atchafalaya River (Sep 5-10 1863). Captured at Atchafala River.  Paroled probably via prisoner exchange. Probably participated in move to New Orleans, then Pensacola,FL. Action at Milton,FL, Moved to Ft Gaines Dauphin Island,AL(Jul 24 – Dec 1864), Campaign against Mobile, Siege of Spanish Fort and Ft Blakely(Mar – Apr 1865).
